Thousands of farmers of Dinajpur Sadar and Chirirbandar upazilas were worried about the cultivation due to the water level in the Boro season. They used to pump palm by half and a half feet and used to pump water to them.

But due to the construction of rubber dam in Atrai river, the image has changed now. No additional cost is being given to farmers to get irrigation facilities from rubber dams. They are financially benefiting from it. Production is about seven thousand metric tons of additional food grains. Besides this, the opportunity for fish farming has been created in the 44 km long water of Atrai and Kakra rivers through this project. The rubber dam constructed on the Mohanpur Atrai River of Shankarpur Union at Sadar upazila of Dinajpur-Gobindaganj road, about 18 kilometers east of Dinajpur city, was inaugurated on October 22, 2013. Shankarpur UP chairman Mokarram Hossain said that the 135 meter long rubber dam has brought blessings to Dinajpur Sadar and Chirirband upazilabis. With the construction of this rubber dam on Mohanpur Atrai River, thousands of hectares of land in Sankarpur, Sheikhpura, Fazilpur, Sashra, Uthrail Union and Saitara, Abdulpur, Viayal and Awliya Pukur Union of Sadar upazila came under irrigation facilities. It benefited thousands of families of two upazilas.
